Calvados Garnier Père & Fils

Calvados Garnier Père & Fils
Garnier is one of the classics in Calvados. The firm was started by great-great-grandfather Pierre in 1877 in the town of Frênes in the heart of Normandy and the Calvados region. While the founder worked mostly locally, his son Albert developed the business considerably. It was he who invested in the estate's own distillation apparatus, which is still in use 100 years later. The third generation, Joseph, took over in the 1950s, and it was during his tenure that the products began to age long enough to seriously establish the firm as a producer of fine calvados, offering products with several decades of ageing. Fourth-generation Patrick added cider and pommeau de Normandie to the range. Today, Garnier is led by fifth-generation Nicolas. He took the liberty of travelling the world before training as an oenologist and taking over the family firm. He now heads one of the region's most respected houses and handles 500-600 tonnes of apples and 3,500-4,500 litres of must each year. Garnier presses some 50 varieties (bitter, sweet, and bittersweet apples) each year, works with wild yeast, and lets the base sit on its lees until distillation six months later. The spirit is then aged in large casks, both new and up to 100 years old. We are both pleased and proud to count Garnier Père & Fils among our partners.
