Geoff Merrill Wines

It is a privilege granted to few, but some winemakers become legends in their own lifetime. One of the few is Geoff Merrill, who has been shaping Australian winemaking since the 1980s. A long career that has taken him to Chateau Reynella, South Africa, Italy, and not least his own McLaren Vale, south of Adelaide in South Australia, earning him and his world-famous bushy moustache a special standing among Australian winemakers. Today, the daily operations at Geoff Merrill's Mount Hurtle Winery are managed by winemaker Scott Heidrich. Like us, he likes to talk about the typical Geoff Merrill style of wine - a style that means the wines have often been allowed to mature for several years before being released for sale, and that they are thoroughly "Australian" in the best sense, regardless of whether we're talking about a rosé wine from grenache or a red reserve wine from cabernet sauvignon.
