Quinta do Mouro

Quinta do Mouro
For those who know their Portugal and their Alentejo, Quinta do Mouro is a familiar name. Multiple times voted the region's best wine producer by, among others, Wine Magazine and The Wine Advocate. Behind the wines stands the poker player (!), dentist, winemaker, and more, Miguel Louro. Louro is a man who lives his passion through Quinta do Mouro, the estate he dreamed of and finally managed to buy after a few successful rounds at... the poker table. The 33-hectare estate lies just outside the beautiful town of Estremoz in Alentejo. Miguel Louro planted his first vines in 1989, with the goal of one day creating personal wines firmly rooted in the area's traditions but made with modern knowledge. Here we find aragonez, alicante bouschet, touriga nacional, trincadeira, petit sirah, petit verdot, and cabernet sauvignon for the reds, and arinto, antão vaz, and verdelho for the whites. The wines are flavourful and powerful, with all of Alentejo's potential in flowing abundance. The aim is to express the unique terroir around Estremoz. Low yields, carefully planned harvest dates, manual harvesting, spontaneous fermentation, the use of local Portuguese oak in combination with more elegant French oak - Quinta do Mouro is truly a blend of tradition and modernity.
