Bodegas Muga

Bodegas Muga
Muga... ah, traditional Rioja, you say. Not at all! Rather, classically modern and very well-made Rioja, we say. Bodegas Muga, located in the town of Haro in the very heart of Rioja, certainly belongs among the region's true classics. The winery, now more than 200 years old, is situated in the station district of Haro, where producers could quickly and easily load their wines directly onto train carriages for onward transport to Bordeaux some 100-150 years ago. The winemaking facility, however, is ultra-modern, and classic methods are interwoven with new technology in production. Visiting the winery is like experiencing a piece of living wine history, and we can truly recommend getting in touch with Muga and booking a visit if you find yourself in the area. That it's a charming and pleasant place to visit is always nice, but it is actually the fantastic wines and the people behind them that led us to work with Muga. The quality of Muga's wines is consistently very high, and it is no coincidence that international authorities such as Tim Atkin place the bodega at the top in Rioja. Here they produce one of Rioja's finest barrel-fermented white wines and an outstandingly high-class, modern, and elegant Rioja Reserva. Moreover, Muga has a brilliant example of a classic Gran Reserva in the wine Prado Enea and its polar opposite in the hyper-modern yet nonetheless origin-typical Torre Muga. Naturally, the rosé is of equally high quality - Spain's best, we say. As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to experience Muga both on site in Rioja and in the wine glass back home. Besides, it's actually hard not to like a wine producer that has its own cooperage...
