Menger-Krug

Menger-Krug
It began with a fascinating and unforgettable tasting during the Prowein wine fair in Düsseldorf, Germany. In the car park outside the packed exhibition hall, in a VW bus hired for the day, sat Regina Menger-Krug, literally holding court. The wind tore at us as we stood reverently outside the vehicle, freezing and savouring her utterly brilliant wines. It was, to borrow from another Swedish-German relationship, an instant connection! The Menger-Krug family has been producing wine since 1758, and as the name suggests, they are experts in sparkling wines. However, the similarities with the namesake end at the fact that both produce high-quality sparkling wine, each in their own right. The family name is reserved for the sparkling wines, while at the two estates Motzenbäcker (Pfalz) and Krug'scher Hof (Rheinhessen) they produce incredibly elegant, well-disciplined still wines from Riesling, Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc, and more. All in harmony with nature and with an almost biodynamic approach. If you find yourself near Deidesheim in Pfalz, a visit to the exquisite Villa im Paradies (VIP) is highly recommended, and if you're lucky, Regina will have emerged from the bus and will welcome you with open arms.
