Mullineux Schist Syrah
Mullineux Schist Syrah
Released among limited-allocation wines at Systembolaget on 11 September. Mullineux Schist Syrah comes, as the name suggests, from schist soils and is one of the three soil-specific wines that Mullineux produces. Very exciting to compare against the other soil type available in Sweden, Mullineux Iron Syrah.

Vinification
The grapes come exclusively from the schist soils around Riebeek Kasteel Mountain. The vines are approximately 16 years old and provide a very distinct expression of the power and structure that syrah from Kasteelberg's soils exhibits. The grapes were hand-harvested on 8 February 2022 and whole clusters were placed in 500L oak barrels, after which a light foot-treading was carried out. After about three days, fermentation began naturally and the temperature was kept below 30°C. Fermentation lasted approximately 14 days, after which skins and must macerated for four weeks before pressing. The wine was then blended and aged 18 months in French oak barrels (500L), of which 50% were new.
