Irancy
Irancy
A red wine from maestra Clotilde Davenne and the Irancy appellation, found in the 'Burgundy department' of Yonne, approximately fifteen kilometres south of Auxerre and southwest of Chablis. The grape is, as expected, Pinot Noir. But here in Irancy, it is permitted to blend in up to ten per cent of the traditional grape César. And Clotilde has taken advantage of this. It gives the wine a bit more tannin and power, and a highly distinctive personality. Perhaps a touch more robust than a red Burgundy such as 'Les Dames de Vergy'. In any case, we find here both raspberry and blackberry with hints of liquorice and pepper, among other things. Enjoyable now but can be cellared for a few years.
