Gramona

Gramona
Barely an hour after arriving in Barcelona, you feel your stomach starting to rumble, clearly set on tapas. Perhaps you head to Cal Pep, Ciudad Comtal, or even Ferran Adrià's Tickets. Regardless, the obvious drink of choice is a glass of Gramona, perhaps an Imperial. Cava or cava, though: for some years now there has also been corpinnat, an association of the best cava producers, those who want to be something other than cheap and sticky. Gramona naturally belongs among the corpinnat producers, and many would even call Gramona the best corpinnat producer. Gramona is one of the most classic producers in the region, now well over 130 years old and in its fifth generation. The family has put its honour and prestige into producing some of the most extended-ageing sparkling wines to be found on the market, with wines such as Imperial, Ill Lustros and Celler Batlle. The latter spends more than seven years on the lees and gives the category an entirely new meaning.
