Idle Lane Chardonnay
Idle Lane Chardonnay
As a young winemaker travelling the world, Ben fell in love with Old World Chardonnay and dreamed of one day producing his own. This is the second Chardonnay Ben has made under the Mr. Riggs banner, and it reflects his love for the Chablis style.

Character
A white wine with notes of ripe pears, yellow apples and citrus. Oak tones and time on the lees provide a medium-bodied mouthfeel balanced by a stony minerality and lively acidity.
Food pairing
Oven-roasted chicken with classic accompaniments, perhaps a chanterelle sauce?
Vinification
The grapes are picked from the 'Tomich' vineyard, where Ben found the perfectly cool site for making a dry Chardonnay with clean aroma. It is a cool-climate vineyard in an area that is 2.5 degrees cooler than McLaren Vale on average. The fruit is whole-cluster pressed and the juice placed directly into French oak barrels. Ben's goal is to highlight the complexity that barrel fermentation can provide rather than flavours of new oak. After fermentation, the wine rested on its lees for nine months.
